Why Soy Candles?
Once you use a soy wax candle, you will know exactly why - soy wax candles are longer burning and cleaner, without paraffin candle soot and smoke buildup.
Madeline Island Candles are made from good, old-fashioned, earth-grown soybeans to create environmentally friendly candles. The soy wax that we use is renewable, biodegradable, and made in the USA.
It could be the history, cultural heritage, or perhaps it’s natural beauty that has made Madeline Island so bewitching. Bald eagle nests to discover, children scouring Big Bay beach for flat rock skipping stones, and others forgetting clocks and deadlines while they enjoy these jewels of Lake Superior – the Apostle Islands.
The Yellow Shafted Flicker
The name that the Ojibwe people gave to Madeline Island was “Moniwunakauning Miniss” meaning “Home of the Yellow Breasted Woodpecker” – also known as the Yellow-shafted Flicker. A medium sized member of the woodpecker family and native to most of North America, the Northern Flicker is one of the few species of woodpeckers that migrate. When Equaysayway, daughter of Chief White Crane and a member of the Ojibway aristocracy, married fur trader Michael Cadotte, she was given the name " Madeleine". Her pleased father declared the island should be named in her honor.
